Introduction . . .This area was originally settled in 1842 and was named Baltic. A school was established here ca. 1846. It was later called East Baltic, when the West Baltic school area was set up in Glencorradale. There was a post office in East Baltic from 1877 until 1970. It was also called briefly, Irish Baltic.
A brief history . . .
The early settlers included Bruce's, Campbell's, Currie's, Dunphy's, Griffin's, Holland's, Humphrey's, Leet's, MacAulay, MacEachern's, MacGregor's, MacLellan's, MacNeill's, Mooney's, Moran's, Nicholson's, Ryan's, Stewart's, and Wilson's. The East Baltic-Red Point Hall was built in 1911 by the residents. It housed many events such as Sunday School classes, Young People's Meetings, Concerts and Public Meetings.
Interesting individuals associated with the community . . .James B. Fay, Potato Inspector, Member of the Legislature and Member of the P.E.I. Cabinet was born here.
Francis B. "Frank" Holland 1888-1969, Fisherman and Canadian Merchant Marine member was born and resided here. He served on the San Demtrio during World War II ,in the convoy to protect the Jervas Bay, which was attacked by the German warship, The Admiral Scheer. Capt. Fogarty Fagan of the San Demtrio was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross and is immortalized in verse.
Peter B. Holland (1887-1949), Railway Station Agent, Mayor of Souris and Alderman in the City of Charlottetown, was born here.
Steven MacKinnon, former special assistant to Premier Frank McKenna of New Brunswick and currently Executive Director of the Liberal Party of Canada, is descended from a Garret family who resided here.
John MacPhee, Piper and member of the Celtic group Slante Mhath has ancestry here among the Dixon's.
T. Leith Robertson 1926-1992, Fisherman, Lay Minister and the first Fire Chief in the Eastern Kings Fire Department resided here. He died suddenly participating in a Department activity.
