Introduction . . .Clear Springs is northwest of Souris in
Lot 44. There was a post office here from 1878 to 1914. The Clear Springs school district was established in 1895. There was a large spring noted on the property of Caius Gillis in the 1880 Atlas. The area was formerly known as Big Bush.
A brief history . . .
The R.C.M.P. pulled off the biggest drug bust in Island history at Johnston's Beach in Clear Springs, in late summer 1991. Entitled Operation Lancer, authorities bagged 12 men, a schooner, and 10,000 lbs. of marijuana with a street value of $20 million.
