Holland
Surveyor-General Samuel Holland supervised surveys
of newly acquired possessions by the British from the
French after the War of Austrian Succession.
By 1765, he had completed Ile Saint Jean, known in English as
St. John's Island. On February 1, 1799, the colony was renamed
Prince Edward Island. He divided the Island into three counties
with capitals and also into 67 lots, 66 of whom were
approximately 20,000 acres apiece.
