Strathcona is situated southwest of Souris in
Lot 54. The community was named for Donald Smith (1820-1914) Baron Strathcona and Mount Royal, financier and statesman. In 1901 he donated a flag to every school in the eastern inspectorate of PEI. There was a post office situated here from 1907 to 1914.
